| 内容記述 | 「もっと」は通常,程度性を持つ語を修飾する。そのため,従来「もっと」を含む比較表現は,程度の大小関係を表すものであると考えられてきた。しかし,実際には程度の大小関係を表すとは言えない働きを持つ場合がある。本稿では比較基準の状態に注目して「もっと」を2つに分類し,「もっと」には「程度用法」と「否定的用法」という2つの用法があることを述べる。「程度用法」は二者の程度の大小関係を表すのに対し,「否定的用法」は一方を否定しもう一方を適当な値として捉える働きを持つものであり程度の大小関係を表さない。それぞれの用法における相違は,単に意味だけではなく,韻律や構文においても見られる。またこのような相違は,「もっと」の使用条件にも影響を及ぼすものである。更に,「もっと」を含まない比較表現においても程度の大小関係を表さない場合があり,このとき「もっと」の「否定的用法」と同様の意味・構文的特徴を持つことを述べる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Previously it was thought that comparative expressions which include motto express an unequal degree relation, because motto 'more' modifies words which relate to degree. However, there are cases where motto has a different function. In this paper, I classify the uses of motto into two types: 1) the "degree usage" and 2) the "negative usage" focusing on the comparison criterion used. While the "degree usage" expresses the relative difference between two sides, the "negative usage" denies one side and assigns a suitable degree to the other. In addition to these semantic differences, I also observed differences in the syntactic constructions and intonation (prominence) used in each type. These differences also influenced the conditions for using motto. Finally, I also observed comparative expressions without motto that did not express an unequal degree relation. I demonstrate that these cases share semantic and syntactic characteristics with the "negative usage" of motto. | |||||
