The existence of such differences between dialect grammars and that of the standard language have been one of the reasons for dialects being valued as having character, or as being capable of expressing subtle distinctions, while on the other hand the standard language is thought of as being overly logical and dry. However, the grammatical chracteristics found in the standard language are ones that a standard language - as the language used for communication above and beyond dialectal distinctions - should indeed furnish.
