| 内容記述 | 『分類語彙表―増補改訂版―』（国立国語研究所 2004）では，多義語の多重分類は部分的にしかされていないため，未収録の意味を明らかにし，増補（該当する既存の分類項目に追加）する必要がある。本稿では，その『分類語彙表』増補を目的に，現行の『分類語彙表』では1～2箇所にしか分類されていない多義語形容詞「カタイ」と「ヤワラカイ」について，「カタイ」を8つ（下位分類を含めて13）の意味に，「ヤワラカイ」を7つ（下位分類を含めて11）の意味に再分類し，『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス：BCCWJ』の実例をもとに，意味ごとの用例数，意味と表記・ジャンルとの関係について考察した。その結果，まず，意味については，「カタイ」も「ヤワラカイ」も基本義での使用，つまり物理的な触覚について述べる際に使われることが多いが，基本義以外については，「カタイ」は【4】「変化しにくいさま」や【1b】「緊張しているさま」，【3】「加わっている力が強いさま」という意味での使用が多いのに対し，「ヤワラカイ」は【8a 視覚】をはじめとする共感覚メタファーの使用が多いというように，使われやすい意味に違いが見られた。表記については，「カタイ」も「ヤワラカイ」も，揺れているものの，意味ごとに使われやすい漢字が異なっていることが確認された。ジャンルについては，【1】基本義は，「カタイ」も「ヤワラカイ」も「技術・工学」での使用が多いが，それ以外の意味については，「カタイ」は【1b】や【6 態度】が「文学」に，【4】が「哲学」に多いこと，「ヤワラカイ」の【8a 視覚】が「芸術・美術」で，【8c 味覚】が「技術・工学」における食べ物の話題で多く用いられていることが分かった。以上の考察を通して，現在の『分類語彙表』には，使われやすい語義の記述に抜けが見られることを指摘し，使われやすい表記，使われやすいジャンルに合わせた例文とともに基本的な語義が提示されることが望ましいことを主張する。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | This study reclassifies the meanings of the polysemic adjectives katai and yawarakai, and points out which meanings should be added to the "Word List by Semantic Principles," in which only a few meanings of polysemous words are listed. By analyzing the frequency of examples for each meaning and the relationship between the meaning and notation, and between the meaning and genre —drawing on examples from the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese— the following findings were established. Both katai and yawarakai are often used in their basic meanings relating to the physical sense of touch; however, for the non-basic meanings, katai is often used to mean (4) "not changed easily," (1b) "nervous," and (3) "strength." In contrast, yawarakai is often used in synesthetic metaphors such as (8a) one's "visual sense." Although neither katai nor yawarakai is fixed in terms of writing, the kanji most likely to be used for the different meanings did differ. Regarding genre, the basic meanings of both katai and yawarakai are often found in technology and engineering. For katai, (1b) and (6) "attitudes" were found to be often used in literature and (4) in philosophy. For yawarakai, (8a) is often used in the arts and (8c) "taste sense" is often used in technology and engineering to describe food. Through the above discussion, this study points out that the "Word List by Semantic Principles" is lacking in describing the meanings of words that are frequently used and argues that it is necessary to present the basic meanings of words with example sentences that match the appropriate notation and genre. | |||||||||
