Rosenbaum has proposed that superficially similar‘accusative-with-infinitive\u0027 constructions can be classified into three groups, viz., want-type constructions (henceforth W-type), compel-type constructions (henceforth C-type), and believe-type constructions (henceforth B-type). B-type constructions show characteristics intermediate between W-type and C-type ones with respect to some syntactic and semantic criteria instrumental in distinguishing between NP-complements and VP-complements. He explained the intermediate nature of B-type constructions by assuming them to take NP-complements at deep structure, which changes into VP-complements afterwards, in the course of their derivation. Putting aside the validity of the postulation of NP-complement, it cannot be denied that three types of ‘accusative-with-infinitive \u0027 constructions can be recognized in English. This study aimed at comparing Indonesian‘ accusative-with-complement \u0027 constructions with B-type, C-type and W-type constructions in English, with occasional reference to the study of Japanese predicate complements, especially the one by Minoru Nakau.
