In this paper, I consider the speaker's knowledge and the information processing in verbal communication from the viewpoint of Relevance Theory and attempt to describe their meanings more appropriately. Using the analysis based on this theory, we can divide the 'implications' conveyed by concessive sentences into two types of information, namely 'context' and 'knowledge'. The former is manifest information for the hearer in verbal communication but the latter is what individuals hold as true in their daily life and is not directly relevant to the communication at hand. Noni is used to express the denial of the speaker's 'knowledge'. The distinctiveness of sentences with noni (for example, the factive status of the main clause, the sense of incongruity, etc.) is explained in terms of the uniqueness of the denied implication. On the other hand, kedo and temo are used to express the denial of 'context'. Used generally for utterance interpretations, 'context' brings no constraints on these particles' meanings. Kedo and temo are used complementarily; the antecedent and the consequent of the former are processed in contexts as independent pieces of information, the latter as a whole., application/pdf}, pages = {47--64}, title = {日本語の「逆接」の接続助詞について : 情報の質と処理単位を軸に}, volume = {17}, year = {2005}, yomi = {キヌハタ, トモヒデ} }
