Previous studies utilizing the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese and the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese have shown that spoken Japanese exhibits a higher frequency of da usage than written Japanese, that females use da more frequently than males, and that a quantitative shift from the absence to the presence of da indicates a linguistic change. This study investigates whether these trends are similarly observed in everyday conversations. The results revealed that, similar to the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese, which includes data from academic lectures, everyday conversations indicate a high frequency of da usage, thus highlighting a marked difference from written Japanese. Regarding language change, the analysis using age as a variable based on the apparent-time concept confirmed a shift toward the use of da in everyday conversations, which is consistent with previous studies.
