Initially, 「俗」 has been researched in explanatory notes, particularly in Chinese-character texts within Buddhist writings, such as those compiled China. Japanese scholars have also used 「俗」 as \"Sezoku: 世俗字\" or \"Tsuuzoku: 通俗字\". Many early Japanese researchers have considered it as a legitimate word in the old dictionary and made it publicly available. Regarding the word 「俗」 compiled by Shitago MINAMOTO: 源順 in the Heian period, its traditional evolution will be clarified by examining the content of each heading-word's notes. \nThe data include 10 volumes ―①馬淵和夫影印諸写本（風間書房刊）: Kazuo MABUCHI, Manuscript-photo-book, Kazama-shobo, ②狩谷棭斎『倭名類聚抄訂本』（内閣文庫蔵）: Ekisai KARIYA, Revised Wamyo ruijusho, Cabinet Bunko― and 20 volumes ―③那波道圓編纂元和版（古写本類）: edit. Doen NAWA's old manuscript from the \"Genna\" period―, and these data will be analyzed to clarify the overall meaning of the word 「俗」 and to prepare interscholastic tables based on each heading word. Understanding its traditional usage is crucial for researchers. Main words were researched in present-remaining books, defining each usage of 「俗」 also involved referencing old Japanese dictionaries such as Jiruishō 『字類抄』 or Myōgishō 『名義抄』.
