However, there are still dialects for which this new theoretical framework and research methods have not yet been applied, leaving the possibility that the prosodic system of these dialects are not accurately described. Taking these points into consideration, this paper investigates the prosodic system of four dialects of the Yaeyama language (Ohama, Miyara, Ishigaki Shika, and Iriomote-Komi) which have been described in the previous literature as possessing a binary prosodic system, and shows that: first, three different accent types are distinguished, and second, we need to postulate the prosodic unit called 'prosodic word' (Igarashi 2015, 2016).
