It compares utterances where the topic particle \"wa\" follows \"watashi\" and use zero particle \"watashi.\" This process demonstrates that speakers use zero particle \"watashi\" and \"watashi wa\" to solve different interactional problems. Zero particle \"watashi\" is used by speakers to project the stance that they are making new information about themselves available to correct a perceived misconception on the part of the questioner.
