While in the typical writing class children are immediately instructed to follow procedures and directions, in the Virtual Viewpoint Approach children engage in a kind of role playing game and then write narrative stories and expository texts mediated by the game. Children are able to utilize the cultural tools and speech genre of the person whose role they assume as resources for writing activities.
