The experiment focused on the following two questions: 1) What effct does data length have on the processing speed of the optical disk? 2) To what degree does index organization affect data retrieval time? We succeeded in reducing the time necessary for writing Japanese language data(10.21M bytes)on a distributed processor from 325 minutes (4k bytes) to 167 minutes(16k bytes). The results of the experiment suggest we could further reduce the writing time by 50% by making the length of written data accord with the track length of the optical disk.The reading time was also reduced from 900 minutes to 180 minutes by integrating the data management table and data retrieval index.
