連用形の時制指定について Tense specification of continuative forms in Japanese 三原, 健一 ミハラ, ケンイチ MIHARA, Ken-ichi 連用形述語 時制指定 厳密同一性 格付与 continuative forms tense specification strict identifiability case assignment 大阪外国語大学 Osaka University of Foreign Studies 等位構造をなす文において,前節にくる連用形述語に定形の時制指定があることを,空所化,時副詞,基準時点に関する言語事実から立証する。認識動詞構文における連用形述語についても,格付与の観点から同様の結論を導く。 It is commonly assumed that continuative forms (ren'yoo-kei) of the verbal conjugation system in Japanese are, tensewise, nonfinite, and no substantial counter-arguments have been so far presented; the issue of the tense specification of continuative forms is still an open question. The present article, arguing against this widespread view too naive in the eyes of scientific research, puts forward four pieces of evidence to show that the underlined continuative forms seen in (1a,b)are in fact finite. (1) a. Watasi wa kissaten ni hairi, koohii o tyuumon-sita. I TOP coffee shop to went-into coffee ACC ordered b. Watasi wa rinzin no sinsetu o arigataku kanzita. I TOP neighbor GEN kindness ACC grateful appreciated (1a) is an instance of a conjoined sentence, and (1b) is a cognitive verb construction, the latter corresponding to the so-called 'small clause' construction in the generative grammar tradition. Pieces of evidence may come from: (a) gapping, (b) time adverbs, (c) reference time, and (d) case-marking.
